Can carbon trading help in the fight against destabilizing climate change? This contribution to a US website debate, Opposing Views, argues that the answer is no. Carbon trading:

- requires knowledge and institutions that do not exist
- is antidemocratic
- interferes with positive solutions, and
- is based more on vague ideology than concrete experience.
